April 1st 2006 - Rolling Road Day, Falkland
Shoot-out at the Falkland Preformance Corral
A big thanks goes to Pete Skene for organising the rabble
an excellent day out a Falkland Performance in Glenrothes Fife.
As seems to be the norm for me at the moment when attending club events,
the recently acquired 325i sport decided to play up. Having met up with
Duncan and Steve along with my friend Ono and Marie noel we made our way
across the Forth road bridge and that’s when it all went Pete tong.
The car suddenly developed a fear of heights as after leaving the tolls
it decided that it did not like the look of the drop over the bridge and
refused to go any further. After a severe bout of tourettes I managed
to persuade the bloody thing that if it did not wish to be come intimate
with a gallon of four star and a lit swan vesta then it had better make
haste to our venue. Off it went, a little sick I may add.
Upon our arrival we were met by our chairman and Jimmy Krankie stunt double,
James. I spoke with the proprietor Allan and shared with him my woes.
He was only too willing to help but I had to wait until everyone had had
their run on the rolling road, as the diagnostic machine that I needed
was also required for the runs.
With fourteen eager motorists champing at the bit, we got straight into
the days action. Looking at the car park outside it brought home to me
the wide range of machinery at the regions disposal. E46 M3 E39/E34 M5’s
not one but two Alpina B10’s Three E36 M3’s one of which being
a rare GT version, and a 320 coupe two E30 325i sports one of which has
had about £2500 head work done, 330ci convertible, Steve’s
planet earth pulling 535d as well as Marie Noel’s 316i.By about
2 o’clock every one was done and dusted. The Newer M power cars
with their complex electrical wizardry would not allow the cars a full
run. Something to do with ABS sensors and the EMS sensing the front wheels
were stationary, whilst the rears were attempting to spin the world the
opposite way.
By 2 o’clock it was my turn. Lee the mechanic went out with me in
mine to try and find the problem prior to going on the rollers but as
is always the case the problem disappeared, just like the wife into a
clothes shop. With the problem being put down to a probable fuel filter
blockage, as the previous owner had only covered 2000 miles in his five
years of ownership, it was onto the rollers and a healthy 169.3bhp and
no sign of the earlier problem. The handbook reported 171bhp so I was
more than delighted given the old burd is 16 years of age and 126000 miles
on the clock (no jokes about 16 year old burds here this is a family magazine).
The only sad note of the day was some of those with leather interiors
found that their drivers seats where scored, the problem was thought to
be from one of the engineers trousers which had studs on the rear pockets,
but Allan and those affected are working things out as we speak. A big
thanks to all the guys at Falkland Performance and Pete once again for
organising this event.
